Do you know where Hong Kong Venice is? Today, I would like take all of you to Hong Kong Venice—Tai O

Up till now, the ambience of the “traditional fishing village”, special architectures of stilt houses, living environment surrounded by river, cultural and historical monuments and the rich source of natural heritage, are still the great attractions of the place. Lying off the southwest coast of Lantau, Tai O has become a fantastic spot for eco tourism and hiking as well. The coastal area of the village is fit for the development of the mangroves zone, with egrets flying in the sky. Travelers can also see the Hong Kong’s endangered pink dolphins frolicking in their natural habitat off Lantau Island.

Now, I would like to recommend some attractions in Tai O to all of you.

Stilts house

In Tai O, you can find Stilts house. Stilt houses are huts built on stilts in a narrow river channel and is one of the most distinctive characteristics of Tai O. This is home to the Tanka people, a community of fisherfolk who have built their homes on stilts above the tidal flats for generations because they do not feel safe on land.

The Sun Kei brigde

This is a very famous bridge which link Tai O Sun Kei and Tai O Island. It is made by the residents and made by Pontianak Wood. If you find this bridge, just continue across and wonder the small little alleys and foot paths into the labyrinth of the stilt village.

Depending on the tide's cycle and the size of the boats, this little foot bridge is fully equipped with a hinged mid-section that raises for free passage.

Tai O Country Trail

Tai O Country Trail offer the Panoramic view which includes Chinese White Dolphin, Cheuk Lap Kok Airport, Chinese traditional grave and Coastal scenery. Therefore, I strongly recommend all of you must go to the trail!

Where can we find the Chinese White dolphin?

When you see the dolphin statue, you can find the dolphin in the sea!

Actually they live in tropic or temperate costal regions, as well as river, estuary or muddy area. In Hong Kong, they live in the water regions of north or west of Lautau Island and south of Tuen Mum. Normally, Chinese White Dolphins have 3 different colors which is based on their age. It includes newborn dolphins are grey in colour , juvenile dolphins are pure pink in colour and adult dolphins are pink in colour.

On the top of the trail, you can find pavilion and enjoy the whole view of Tai O here!

Shrimp Sauce

The shrimp sauce is a very special food in Tai O

Fishermen can catch many small shrimps during June to September every year. After washing the shrimps, season the shrimps with salt then grind it and dry it in the sun, then you get shrimp sauce and shrimp paste.

Visitors can contact the Tai O Rural Committee if they wish to visit the production facilities for these products.

Tai O Street

If you want to buy souvenir, you can go to the Tai O Street. You can buy some salt fish salt eggs and shrimp sauce! Also, you can buy many fresh seafood! The price is reasonable so you can buy a lot of souvenirs in the street!!

Famous hawker and delicious food! Especially Egg Pancake!
